Dato' Mohamad Hanafiah Haji Zakaria is an experienced former Deputy Public Prosecutor and Senior Federal Counsel with a demonstrated history of working in the legal sector of the Malaysian government service for over 39 years. His expertise spans various areas, including civil litigation, corporate advisory, and criminal defence litigation.
Dato' Hanafiah obtained his LL.B (Honours) Degree from Universiti Malaya.
Throughout his career in the Judicial and Legal Service of Malaysia, Dato' Hanafiah has held various positions such as the Solicitor General III of Malaysia, the Head of Appellate & Trials at the Attorney General's Chambers, and the Deputy Head of Prosecution (Operation) at the Attorney General's Chambers. In the 1980s, he served as a Magistrate in the district of Kampar, Perak, and in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur.
Before his retirement, Dato' Hanafiah was the Director General of the Judicial and Legal Training Institute (ILKAP) under the Prime Minister's Department and served as a Board Member of Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Malaysia (PTPTN) representing the Attorney General of Malaysia from 2018 to 2020.
He was also a member of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) for the Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 disaster, representing the Government of Malaysia, and participated in task force meetings concerning the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370.
Post-retirement, Dato' Hanafiah is currently an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya, practicing under the name and style of Messrs. Mohamad Hanafiah Zakaria. Additionally, he is a Life Member of the Judicial and Legal Service Officers' Association (JALSOA).
