Datuk Azian Mohd Aziz graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) (Hons) degree from the University of Malaya in 1987, boasting over 37 years of experience in the legal field. Her career commenced on 1 October 1987 with her appointment as a Federal Counsel in the Attorney General’s Chambers. Throughout her career, Datuk Azian has held various positions, including a Legal Advisor to the Ministry of Transport, Senior Federal Counsel in the Advisory Division and Research Division of the Attorney General’s Chambers, Senior Assistant Parliamentary Draftsman, and Legal Advisor of the Ministry of Defence. Her expertise includes civil litigation, corporate advisory, and criminal defence litigation, making her a versatile legal professional.
In 2009, Datuk Azian was appointed as the Corporation Secretary of Putrajaya Corporation (“PPJ”). Later, in 2010, she became the Director General of the Judicial and Legal Training Institute (“ILKAP”) at the Prime Minister’s Department. Subsequently, in 2012, Datuk Azian was appointed as the Treasury Solicitor at the Ministry of Finance. In 2014, she advanced to the position of Deputy Head of Advisory Division (Municipal) I of the Attorney General’s Chambers. By late 2016, Datuk Azian was promoted to Head of the International Affairs Division, Attorney General’s Chambers, and in late 2018, she became the Head of the Advisory Division of the same office. From 16 December 2020 until 26 June 2023, Datuk Azian served as the Parliamentary Draftsman of the Attorney General’s Chambers.
In recognition of her contributions to the nation as a Senior Legal Officer of the Malaysian Judicial and Legal Service, Datuk Azian was awarded the Darjah Panglima Jasa Negara (P.J.N.) by His Majesty the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong in 2021.
Post-retirement, Datuk Azian is now an Advocate and Solicitor at Messrs. Mohamad Hanafiah Zakaria based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Datuk Azian currently serves as a Member of the Board of Directors of Khazanah Nasional Berhad, where she is also the Chairman of the Nomination & Remuneration Committee. Additionally, she acts as the Legal Advisor to the Policy Advisory Committee to the Prime Minister (PMAC).
Throughout her distinguished career, Datuk Azian has also been a director of various entities, including the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia, Sepang International Circuit, Amanah Raya Berhad, Amanah Raya Trustees, Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad, Institut Jantung Negara, and Syarikat Prasarana Nasional Berhad. She has also previously served on the Board of Advisors of Institut Latihan Islam Malaysia.
