Ahmad Faiz Razali graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) (Hons.) degree from the MARA University of Technology ("UiTM").
Ahmad Faiz commenced his Pupillage with Messrs. Dennis, Nik & Wong in 2015 and subsequently moved on to Messrs. S.N. Nair & Partners in 2016 as a Legal Associate. In February 2017, Ahmad Faiz transitioned to Messrs. Gan Ho & Razlan Hadri as a Legal Associate.
Later in May 2017, Ahmad Faiz joined the Judicial & Legal Service and was appointed as a Federal Counsel, posted to the Civil Division at the Attorney General's Chambers. During this time, he attended hearings and trials independently, ranging from Magistrate Court to Court of Appeal. He defended decisions of public authorities and quasi-judicial bodies in Judicial Review applications in the High Court and protected the interests of the Government, its agencies, and officers in civil suits, which involved issues such as negligence and breach of statutory duty, including criminal defence litigation matters. Ahmad Faiz also initiated and defended the Government in contractual disputes, showcasing his expertise in civil litigation.
Subsequently, in 2018, Ahmad Faiz was transferred to the International Affairs Division at the Attorney General's Chambers, where he provided advisory support on international trade and finance matters, particularly those related to ASEAN. He offered legal opinions, vetted international instruments, and negotiated on behalf of Malaysia during trade missions. Additionally, Ahmad Faiz acted as a Malaysian delegate in negotiation rounds of the ASEAN Protocol on Enhanced Dispute Settlement Mechanism.
From March 2019 until April 2022, Ahmad Faiz was transferred back to the Civil Division.
In April 2022 until December 2022, Ahmad Faiz was a Federal Counsel at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Malaysia, providing legal advice on internal security matters, particularly concerning powers conferred to the police and other enforcement agencies. He prepared legal briefs for relevant commissions on disciplinary issues and the termination of senior police and immigration officers, engaging in policy discussions and legislation drafting. Significant legislation he worked on included proposed amendments to the House to House and Street Collection Act 1945, the Prison Act 1995, the Lock Up Rules 1943, the Prison Officer Association Rules 1956, and the Film Censorship Regulations 2022.
From December 2022 until June 2023, Ahmad Faiz returned to the Civil Division of the Attorney General's Chambers, where he acted for the Government of Malaysia and its officers in civil suits for breach of statutory duty and negligence. He represented the Government in cases ranging from the Magistrate Court to the High Court and acted as Junior Counsel in a significant contractual dispute involving a large-scale biometric project with claims reaching RM86 Million.
After leaving the Judicial & Legal Service in June 2023, Ahmad Faiz was appointed as a Legal Advisor to the PERKESO Rehabilitation Centre. In May 2024, he returned to legal practice and joined Messrs. Esther Ong, Tengku Saiful & Sree.
Effective 12 June 2024, Ahmad Faiz joined Messrs. Mohamad Hanafiah Zakaria as Head of Civil Litigation, further strengthening his role in civil litigation and corporate advisory.
